A whole host of personal traits are determined in part by your DNA. One of these is potentially abnormal blood clotting. There are certain (rare) mutations that increase the risk of thrombophilia (abnormal blood clotting), making it more likely that you will develop a thrombosis.

Mutations in these genes can disrupt the blood clotting process and increase the risk of thrombophilia.
